BYD e6 — electric

Booked on Drive lah

Insurance and licence checks by Drive lah

A BYD e6 electric car, listed and booked entirely through Drive lah — they handle insurance and licence checks, which is worth having for a car. Booking, deposit and collection all happen on their platform, not here.

Questions

These FAQs are consolidated from actual enquiries by real renters, and the replies they received.

Pick-up

Where do I pick up the car?

The pick up location is about a 7-minute walk from Queenstown MRT, I will let you know exact location upon booking. Come straight to the concierge lobby — not the security guardhouse. You don't need to speak to the security guards. Whoever is handing over (me or my helper) will meet you there and bring you to the car.

Will you be there in person?

Often not — I travel a lot, so my helper usually hands over the key. She'll be at the concierge a few minutes before your booking time, looking out for someone who's looking for someone. Message me on Drive lah if you'll be early or late so I can tell her.

What do I do at pick-up?

Bring your driving licence. Take photos of the car, the odometer and the battery level, and submit the pick-up request in the Drive lah app — that's what starts your trip and your insurance.

What if I forget to submit the pick-up or drop-off request in the app?

Please remember to do both in the Drive lah app — at pick-up and again at drop-off. I usually take a photo of the odometer before and after your trip on my side as well, and I can send it to Drive lah's live support to submit for you if you forget. But Drive lah may charge a small processing fee to do it on your behalf, so it's best to do it yourself.

Can the car be delivered to me?

Normally no — collection and return are at my condo, but it may be possible on rare circumstances at a cost, depending on location and whether I am around. If you need delivery, you can try asking me in the Drivelah app and I will let you know.

Will the car be fully charged when I pick it up?

Yes, if you book at least a day ahead — I charge it the night before. For same-day or last-minute bookings it may not be full; ask me in the chat and I'll tell you the current level before you book.

The app won't let me book the time I want (too soon, or before 7am). What can I do?

You can try dropping me a message on Drivelah and I can see if it is possible to make some adjustments.

Return & drop-off

How do I return the car?

Drive straight into the carpark — no need to stop at the guardhouse. Go down to B2 (one level below the B1 you drive in on) and park in lot 120, shown in the photos below. Do not park in an EV charging lot, even if that's where you collected it — lot 120 is right beside an EV lot, so I can get someone to charge the car from lot 120 without it ever occupying the EV lot. That matters when I'm travelling and can't physically drive the car away. We're not allowed to park in an EV lot when not charging, so if you park there while I'm away, it causes me a lot of distress. Leave the key inside the car, submit the drop-off request in the app, and message me that you've parked. That's it — no need to wait for anyone or call me. If lot 120 is taken, park in any other normal lot that is NOT an EV lot.

Can I return early?

Yes. Park in lot 120 on B2 (see above), leave the key in the car and drop me a message.

What if I'm going to be late returning it?

Drive lah may charge a late-return fee. Most people just extend the booking, or make a new short booking for the extra hours, which usually costs less than the fee.

I left something in the car.

Tell me in the chat. You can make arrangement collect it from the concierge any time; just let me know when.

Charging & the fuel package

How far does a full charge go?

The car manual says 500km but I'd take it as about 400-450km, depending heavily on how you use it, eg your driving habits, aircon and fan levels during the drive etc. I recommend not risking it to less than 15%. Charge it somewhere if you need to, especially for long multi-day trips.

Do I have to charge it before I return it?

It depends on whether you opt-in for the fuel package. With the fuel package, you don't charge it back — Drive lah charges you per km for what you used, at the EV rate, which is much cheaper than petrol. Without it, you return the car at the same battery level you collected it at. For a day trip, the fuel package is almost always easier, because charging takes hours.

I have the fuel package but charged the car anyway. Can I get that back?

Yes — send your charging receipt to Drive lah's live chat support and they'll refund it. It can take a week or two. I am not able to refund directly as I will only receive the payout much later.

Where can I charge?

Any public EV charger — you just need that operator's app. SP chargers (SP app) are the most common, at most malls and HDB carparks. PlugShare shows chargers and prices. Use AC charging — the car takes fast AC, so DC is more expensive and barely faster. The chargers at my condo are for residents only.

What if the battery runs out?

Try not to get into a situation where you run out of battery on the road, battery level may drop fast at low levels. If you ever get into a situation where you need an emergency charge, you can google for EV Rescue or any vendor that provide such service.

Mileage & long trips

Is there a mileage limit?

200 km per day, set by Drive lah, not by me. Beyond that, Drive lah charges extra per km. Most renters never get close — even a JB day trip is usually about 100 km.

Anything else for long trips?

Mind the 200 km/day mileage limit (below). For long drives like KL, booking an extra day is usually cheaper than the excess-mileage charge.

Driving to Malaysia

Can I drive it to Malaysia?

Yes. The VEP is registered and the RFID tag is already on the car, so there are no documents to bring. Renters have taken it to JB, Kulai, Desaru, Malacca and KL. Choose the Malaysia option for insurance when you book on Drive lah.

Do I need a Touch 'n Go card?

Yes, for the Malaysian tolls. Bring your own, or borrow mine: take a photo of the balance before and after, and pay me back what you used.

Can I charge in Malaysia?

Many renters have, but I haven't myself, so I can't recommend a network. Check PlugShare. For a day trip to JB you usually won't need to — a return trip there is typically around 100 km.

Price & booking

How much does it cost? Is there a discount?

The price is as listed on Drive lah, and weekends cost more than weekdays. Bookings of 3 or 7 days or more get a discount. The final price includes insurance and Drive lah's fees; you'll see the breakdown at checkout. I only see my share, so I can't quote your total.

Will you cancel on me?

I haven't cancelled a single booking since I started hosting.

Why isn't this booked on Telegram like everything else?

A car needs insurance and licence checks that Drive lah already handles — there's no reason to rebuild that ourselves.

The car

How many seats?

Five. It's not a 7-seater, but the boot is big.

Does it have CarPlay?

No. Bluetooth audio works; most people hotspot their phone and use Waze.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes. Several renters have. Please use a seat cover and keep the car clean.

Do you have a child seat?

Only a booster seat for older toddlers. Please bring your own infant or baby seat.

Cards & parking

Do I need a cashcard for parking and ERP?

Yes. A NETS FlashPay card or a CashCard goes in the reader by the driver's left leg. An EZ-Link card works only if it has NETS FlashPay. If you don't have one, you can borrow mine and pay me back what you used.

Can I park my own motorbike or van at your condo while I have the car?

Yes, as my visitor. Ask me in the chat and I'll tell you how.
